Where are artworks actually stored?
Art lovers keep admiring artworks in museums or galleries, probably without ever wondering, where such artworks might be actually stored whenever they are not prominently exhibited on the walls of a museum or an art fair. Generally, art depots remain hidden places for the wide public – a fact that maybe constitutes the exceptional charm and mystery of such facilities. Only a very small percentage of a collection’s inventory is displayed in exhibitions, remaining for a limted period of time outside of its official storage location. It is widely known that the broad majority of famous artworks all over the world slumbers in vast, hidden away art depots.
But nevertheless, an adequate storage and protection of artworks requires no less logistical skills and know-how than the planning of an art show.
