Gerhard Richter - Neun Objekte, 1969
Offset print on cardboard,
9 parts, 44,5 x 44,5 cm each
In 1969, Gerhard Richter created this series of nine offset prints on cardboard, based on photographs of self-made wooden objects. They depict geometric wooden constructions that appear as impossible objects with visual illusions that seem at first unfathomable to the viewer. In an interview in 1972, the artist expressed his view on the relationship between reality and deception: "I do not distrust reality, of which I know next to nothing, but the image of reality that our senses impart to us and that is imperfect ..." - Gerhard Richter, Text 1961 bis 2007. Schriften, Interviews, Briefe, Verlag der Buchhandlung Walter König, Köln 2008, p. 60.
