Damien Hirst - Billy Mill Roundabout, undated
Wax crayon on colour etching on paper
90,8 x 70,5 cm
For his series of spin drawings, Hirst attaches copper plates to a spin machine installed in his studio and carves them with needles, screwdrivers and other sharp tools. This creates the concentric circular motive of the etchings, which he later reworks with drawing material. As a source of inspiration were long exposure shots, which Hirst had taken from the night sky, showing the stars in abstract patterns. Billy Mill Roundabout is one of the 23 etchings from the first volume of In a Spin, the Action of the World on Things.
